Question rangers and necro's in harmony

for those of u who use this build or have seen it in action,(ranger/necro necro/ranger) how does it fare. does it work better to fire arrows then to explode the corpses, or curse, shoot, curse. any comments welcome.

is it better to have "soul reaping" or "expertise"?

If you intend to use mainly Ranger skills, Expertise is better.

If you intend to use mainly spells, Soul Reaping is better. You also get a bigger mana pool with more regen as a Necro.

Personally, I think the Ranger class is pretty self-centered. 12 marks and 14 expertise pretty much prevents you from using non-ranger skills effectivly.

Primary Rangers can't do much with their mana pool unless they have high expertise and use few or no spells, which means you're generally stuck with that bow too.

Necro can be a pretty good secondary for rangers. Go with curses, stick barbs and weaken armor on your target, use a vampiric or zealous bowstring, and let loose the penetrating attacks.

primary ranger secondary casters = a 'druid'-type combo

decent armour, decent energy with a focus item. does not match up to the armour of a warrior, but you'll be able to last longer in a fight.

if you want to be the last guy targeted (rangers get targeted last usually) and don't mind spread stats, try wilderness survival ranger with necro spells. for example, you can bring melandru's resilence or serpent's quickness, troll unguent, and get 6 necro skills.

I just switched to necromancer secondary (<----- over there,) and it seems to be working nicely. One of the main benefits is that the monk doesnt have to heal you as much if you bring the right skills.

Necro is an awesome ranger secondary.

Rangers demand lots of attributes (14 expertise/12 marks min) and generally require a lot of your skill bar.

On the other hand necros really don't have many needed skills and you generally don't need a lot of attribute points to make their stuff (like rend/shadow of fear ex) effective.
